New investments promotion in Argentina: the so-called “RIGI”
Investments promotion in Argentina
Investments promotion in Argentina is imperative to reactivate the economy without encouraging consumption via deficits and state spending (these policies carried out in recent years have only led to high inflation levels). The new investments promotion in Argentina through the regime called Incentive Scheme for Large Investments (Régimen de Incentivo para las Grandes Inversiones, hereinafter RIGI) goes in that direction.[1].
Some of the objectives of the RIGI are:
- to encourage large investments, both domestic and foreign;
- to increase exports of goods and services;
- to foster job creation;
and
- to encourage local production through requirements of minimum percentages of local suppliers.
In future publications, we will outline the main aspects of RIGI, for example, the legal vehicles to be used, the information and documentation required to apply for the RIGI, the investment plan to be submitted, the tax, customs, and foreign exchange benefits, etc.
